Necromanteion of Ephyra

The Nekromanteion is a must-see for anyone who is interested in ancient Greek mythology. You find a geographically accurate description in Homer's Odyssee, when the hero dug a pit on a rock between two rivers in order to listen to the Dead souls who were telling the future. The word Necromanteion means "Oracle of the Dead". It is located in the village of Mesopotamos, at the point where the river Acheron mixed with Kokytos and Pyriflegethontas, on the northwestern shores of Lake Acherousia, which was the entrance to the world. It is built on the top of a hill, which was visited by visitors from Akrotiri Heimerio village of Ammoudia , to communicate with the souls of their loved ones. Homer in the Odyssey describes in detail the area during the descent of Odysseus to Hades.
